Amid reports of cancellation of celebrations to mark 60 years in exile of the Dalai Lama because of a government directive, the Tibetan government-in-exile has shifted one of the events to Dharamshala and cancelled the other one. Both were to be held in Delhi.
While 'Thank You India' event venue has been moved, the Central Tibetan Administration officials say that a decision to move it was being considered even before the newspaper reports regarding the Cabinet Secretary's directive emerged.
Spokesperson for the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Sonam Dagpo said, "We had a big program in Delhi where we invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Now we have shifted the venue to Dharamsala. We have an organising committee for Thank You India so we were discussing about the venue and were discussing shifting of venue from Delhi to Dharamsala then we saw an article regarding the Foreign Secretary's letter to the Cabinet Secretary."
